Base Information Transfer System (BITS)

SSI offers comprehensive postal, communication and administrative services for military bases. The Base Information Transfer Center (BITC) receives, processes x-rays, distributes, and dispatches all official controlled and uncontrolled mail, administrative communications, forms, publications and parcels. Furthermore the BITS personnel are responsible for picking up all official outgoing material, sorting, consolidating, applying correct official metered postage, and coordinating dispatches with the US Portal Service, United Parcel Service, Federal Express, and private small delivery companies.

Experience

SSI has been responsible for the Base Information Transfer System (BITS), the Local Administrative Processing Center at Edwards Air Force Base since 1993. SSI has been recognized several times for outstanding contract performance; our employees were recognized as the "Security Specialists of the Quarter" in 1995. Later that year, we received the coveted "Security Specialist of the Year" award. Our personnel have won many awards and received many letters of appreciation due to their attention to detail and their goal of complete customer satisfaction. SSI personnel have been innovators in the field of mail processing, as we have just completed an entire transition of mail delivery operation at the Postal Service Center at Edwards AFB.

Case History - Edwards AFB

In late 2000, we originated the idea of x-raying mail locally at our BITS office. Based on our recommendation, Edwards AFB procured a new x-ray machine that went into service in January 2001. This machine cut down the number of suspicious packages reported to the base. Since the events of September 11, 2001, this machine is being used full time to x-ray every package coming onto Edwards AFB, both official and residential. They went from a Central PSC Box Delivery to a Dorm Delivery System. Although the projected time frame for this was 120 days, we were able to accomplish the task in 60 days. We feel we are an intrinsic part of the Edwards AFB team as they listen to our innovative ideas, and we in turn respond immediately to their needs.
